Spider (1996), by Louise Bourgeois, is one of the most emblematic works of international art at the turn of the 21st century.
Signed by Moacir dos Anjos, one of the most important curators in the country, with visits to the Biennials of São Paulo and Venice, the exhibition “Arte Democracia Utopia – Who doesn’t fight is dead” is part of the institution’s 5th anniversary celebration program.
In close relationship with the exhibition “Women in the MAR collection” and in dialogue with the Women of the World (WOW) festival 2018, of which the museum was a strategic partner, the exhibition highlights the artistic power of Aunt Lucia, icon Carioca culture, especially the region known as Little Africa.
The show brings together sculptures, installations, prints, drawings and other supports, which show Rosana Paulino’s quest to deal with social issues, highlighting the place of black women in Brazilian society.
